Fairy Tale News
Hillside School’s 2nd graders have re-written some of the most well-known fairy tales. Mrs. Eley began the project during library class. Students explored traditional fairy tales as a group and then selected fairy tales to read on their own.
After reading the fairy tales, Mrs. Eley had the students create a “newspaper article” detailing the events that happened in the story - the “who, what, where, how and why” - from a reporter’s perspective. Students were also asked to include a quote from a person involved in the story, just as a newspaper report would.
This year’s articles also included illustrations that were created during their computer lesson with Mrs. Vassos. Each student was asked to create an illustration that represented something that occurred in their article. These illustrations are included in the print version of the “Hillside Fairy Tales News” as well as the podcasts available on this site.
To create these podcasts, the classroom teachers first helped students to practice reading their stories aloud. Mrs. Vassos then taught the students the process for recording their stories during another computer class.
We hope you enjoy the stories!
